Kakamega deputy governor Ayub Savula has called on President William Ruto to take action against former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua , accusing him of obtaining sensitive State House intelligence and using it to undermine the presidency.

Source: Twitter Savula made the remarks on Saturday, August 1, in Kakamega, referencing an incident in which Gachagua appeared to have advance knowledge of the contents of Ruto's national address before it was broadcast.

Speaking to an audience in Kakamega, Savula was blunt in his assessment of the situation.

The controversy centres on remarks Gachagua made while hosting a delegation of clergy at his Wamunyoro residence on Thursday, July 30, hours before Ruto's scheduled national address.

During that gathering, Gachagua described the upcoming speech as a "new congame," claiming Ruto intended to launch a Kenya Vision 2060 plan and appoint former president Uhuru Kenyatta to lead it.

"He has come up with a new congame tonight. He has arranged a state address tonight. Do you know what he is coming to do? To launch Kenya Vision 2060, to plan for Kenyans how they will live between now and 2060. He has already destroyed Vision 2030, and now wants to deceive Kenyans with Vision 2060," Gachagua told the gathering.

He added: "The saddest part is he wants to appoint former president Uhuru Kenyatta to lead it. He should not accept. That is what he has planned, unless he changes it, because I know him."

When Ruto eventually addressed the nation, he spoke extensively about Vision 2030, Kenya's development blueprint established in 2008 under the late President Mwai Kibaki , and announced a National Conversation on Kenya's Future Beyond Vision 2030 set to launch on 12 August. He did not announce a Vision 2060 or name Uhuru Kenyatta to any role.

Despite those differences, the overlap between Gachagua's preview and the broad subject matter of Ruto's address generated considerable debate online.

Some observers concluded that Gachagua had accurate prior knowledge of the speech, while others suggested the address may have been revised after his remarks became public.

Gachagua has previously claimed to retain loyalists within the National Intelligence Service and the National Police Service who relay information ordinarily restricted to the presidency, a claim that has been a persistent source of tension between him and the current administration since his impeachment in October 2024.
