Nairobi - Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia has been arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives at the Royal Media Services (RMS) offices in Nairobi on the morning of Monday, August 3, 2026.

In a statement posted to social media in the early hours of Monday, Kaguchia said a large contingent of armed men had encircled the media house following his appearance on the Kiririmbi Show.

Kaguchia repeatedly emphasised that none of the men he observed was wearing police uniforms, casting doubt over their official status.

Motorists driving along Maalim Juma Road near its junction with Dennis Pritt Road also reported unusual activity, with witnesses describing spike strips blocking half the road and forcing vehicles into a single lane.

Several heavily armed, masked individuals were further said to have stopped and searched cars heading towards the RMS premises. Authorities had not confirmed the identity of the operatives or the nature of their mission by the time of publication.

The arrest follows a weekend appearance by Kaguchia at a gathering in Kieni, where the MP made remarks that drew widespread criticism.

Speaking in his native language, Kaguchia appeared to caution residents against supporting President William Ruto's re-election bid in the 2027 General Election, warning that those who voted for the President would be "smoked out" from their homes.

The remarks sparked immediate backlash and may have contributed to the heightened security activity around the legislator in the hours that followed.
