Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has responded sharply to the arrest of Mukurweini member of parliament John Kaguchia, accusing President William Ruto of resorting to the same tactics he once condemned when he was deputy president.

In his post, Gachagua drew a direct comparison between the current government and Uhuru Kenyatta's administration, which he accused of weaponising the justice system to silence dissent ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Gachagua recalled that Ruto himself had been openly critical of those arrests at the time, suggesting the president had since reversed course.
He then turned the question back on the president: "As president, he is doing exactly what he said at the time was foolish. Has it become more wise?"
Gachagua added that he harboured serious reservations about the effect of State House on a leader's judgement, stating, "I am genuinely concerned about what happens to leaders, their thinking and reasoning, once they occupy State House."

The MP had refused to leave the premises, claiming that hooded and heavily armed officers had surrounded the building following his on-air appearance.
Detectives eventually escorted him to DCI headquarters for questioning over remarks authorities said amounted to incitement, including statements interpreted as threatening to supporters of Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
